First stop is in Honduras where we looked at traditional Lenca pottery and created our own black and white designs on our paper mache bowls.
In the fall, we took a look at Vincent Van Gogh's landscapes and the style that makes them recognizable. Students used oil pastels to create the 'brush strokes' that express movement in Van Gogh's work. Photos coming soon!
Mandalas are geometric figures representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. Students created their own mandalas, using a basic grid, and applying color with color pencils.
MC Escher is an amazing artist from the Netherlands that used a lot of math in his artwork. Among other things, he created tessellations (images that slide or rotate and fit together like a puzzle). We created our own tessellations. Check them out!
Using a mold, students were able to form and design their own clay mask using scoring and slipping techniques. The styles range from tribal to funny and even some well know characters.
