The goal for this year's art room is to provide more of a choice-based learning experience. We started off the first quarter by introducing three centers - drawing, collage and painting - and going over where to locate materials and how to properly use them.
We also started focusing on certain themes and concepts such as your environment, how to show movement or pattern, and creating something that has symbolism. Each of these can be uniquely personal. Each month we'll introduce artists from different parts of the world. October focused on South America and students looked at the work of Romero Britto (Brazil), Roberto Mamani Mamani, (Bolivia), and Pau Quintanajornet (Chile). |
K and 1stPatterns are designs that repeat, so we focused on filling the spaces of our drawings with awesomely bright patterns!

2nd and 3rdValue is the light and dark of a color. While Mamani Mamani focuses on animals and landscapes of Bolivia, students were free to create their own composition. The focus was on filling each shape with Value!

4th and 5thThere is so much meaning in Pau's work. Students were tasked to dig deep and create something symbolic or meaningful to them, all the while adding in patterns and detail lines!
